Despite only missing a day or two, February always seems to go by so quickly! With so little time and so much to do, here’s your roundup of the latest news in the meetings and events industry.
Rumors are kicking up again over the possibility of Facebook buying Twitter. The two social media giants haven’t made any official statements but Twitter has indicated some potential interest in selling. The editorial team of Event Manager Blog explored what this would mean for event professionals should such a sale take place.
According to a recent survey conducted by The Event Marketing Institute in partnership with Cvent, 88% of event marketers are putting increased focus on event data. The joint press release explained, “Historically, events and meetings were seen as a qualitative industry, however the industry has evolved to rely more on quantitative data, analytics, highly specialized software, and digital media. Utilizing technology enables planners and marketers to generate and measure data in order to create events and meetings that help an organization capture data and insights to improve the attendee experience, better market the event, track ROI and assist with overall strategy and event planning.”
You can learn a little more about the implication of increased data tracking and analytics at events in this article from Bill Bosak at RTInsights, explaining “Why Data is the Future of Live Events.”
And finally, according to Conference News, “EventTech 17 is set to become the UK’s largest event technology exhibition when it opens at International Confex next week.” The event promises a dynamic event tech space and this year, is focusing on the theme of innovation.
