We’re officially half way through the year and stepping into Q3 and today we’re rounding up the latest news stories in the world of events and technology! Everything from Brexit and Microsoft’s acquisition of LinkedIn to big changes on Facebook and more!

We’re growing up and only getting better! Just a couple weeks ago, The Meeting Pool celebrated its 3rd Birthday! We updated our website, created a special downloadable eBook, and put together a video to share our excitement and our gratitude with our friends and clients!

Microsoft just jumped into the social media space. The software giant just acquired professional social network, LinkedIn. At $26.2 billion, the acquisition is Microsoft’s biggest to date. LinkedIn will maintain its “distinct brand, culture, and independence” because LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner will remain CEO of the site and report directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

The UK and the EU are going through a messy divorce. The UK recently held a historic vote to determine whether they would leave the European Union. With the announcement of a 52% result in favor of the departure, events professionals began to consider how this might affect the events industry.

June has been a busy month for Facebook. The social media site not only announced the ability to live stream with another user and upcoming plans to add Snapchat like filters to its live streaming service but also made a big shift in what is displayed in users’ news feeds. Now, Facebook’s algorithm is placing a higher priority on content from friends and family than from news and media.
