Lonely this Valentines Day?  The Meeting Pool’s “Got Your Back” with a Dating Apps Round-up!

A decade ago, finding love through the virtual tap of an app was creepy. Now, it’s normal. According to a Pew Research Study, more than 1/3 of U.S. adults who are “single and looking” are currently using a dating app. Whether you plan to spend Valentine’s Day snuggled next to someone you met online, or you’re still looking for that special someone, one thing’s for sure – mobile apps have changed the way Americans find love. Just check out the stats:

  • The online dating market generates more than $2 Billion dollars.
  • Online dating is becoming popular among Millennials.
  • 1 out of 10 mobile device owners use a dating app.
  • More than 40% of Americans know someone who has used online or mobile dating.

Tinder is heating up hook ups all over the world. The mobile app has taken the dating scene by storm – gaining more than 500 million profile ratings and matching 3.5 million people every day. Wondering why it’s such a hit? It’s all about looks. Tinder lets you see pictures of users nearby. Then, you answer whether they’re hot – or not. Swipe right for yes, swipe left for no. If you both swipe right, you can send messages and arrange to meet up. Tinder users aren’t just one-and-done. Over half of all users login more than once a day to browse others nearby. Borderline creepy? Maybe.
Great For: College Students & 20 Somethings

Unlike Tinder, Hinge focuses on forming long-lasting relationships. Using an algorithm referred to as a Romance Graph, the app analyzes potential matches and pairs people based on their likelihood to be a good match. While Hinge is not nearly as popular as Tinder, the app is quickly gaining a steady number of users. Even more impressive, ¾ of Hinge users remain active on the app a month after they have downloaded it.
Great For: Singles looking for a potential relationship

It’s what’s on the inside that counts, right? Twine is applying that to the mobile app dating scene. The app is all about putting brains before beauty – the app lets people see your personality prior to revealing your looks. Users choose a “canvas” that they find interesting and if the match is mutual, the app reveals the user’s profile picture and a chat feature is unlocked. Twine even helps you get the conversation started. Based on a user’s areas of interest, the app will suggest questions to help break the ice.
Great For: Singles who want a relationship based on substance, not look

With more than 7 million users, Okcupid is yet another app that is revamping the mobile matchmaking world. After signing up, users answer 25 questions and rank their level of importance. Potential pairs are matched with one another based on a mathematical algorithm. And the rest is left to chemistry!
Great For: 18-34 year-olds looking for casual dates

Grindr is like Tinder – but for gay, bi, or curious men. The app has more than 4 million users and also uses GPS technology to display potential partners located nearby. Grindr is great for hookups, casual dating, or finding a new friend… although we kind of think the 3rd option is probably the least likely scenario…
